Patient treated with Wet Wrap (Not Linked)

John (not his real name) is in his 30s and has had eczema almost all his life. He had essentially exhausted all the treatment options for eczema, including remedies recommended by friends and TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine). His doctor suggested oral steroids, which he refused as he had observed the rapid improvement after taking steroids only to be followed by an equally rapid rebound; and, he was particularly worried about the long-term side effects. So John went back to using steroid creams again, mostly due to a lack of choice.

One day, a friend told him about my wet wrap treatment and he decided to give me a try. John had severe eczema and his skin was lichenified (thick and leathery through chronic scratching or rubbing), scaly and scabbed from scratching. I didn’t have to tell him much about eczema; he already knew enough. He was just frustrated that his eczema was not improving even though he did everything his doctors had advised. I went straight into wet wrap treatment, explained how it worked and suggested hospitalization so he could learn how to do the treatment at home. He agreed. The improvement was rapid. He had a restful night and his skin was noticeably better the next day. By the 3rd day, his skin was so much better that he said “my skin has never looked so good before”. I discharged him after 5 days. His skin was still dry and lichenified (common with chronic eczema) but the scaling and scabbing had all but gone and he was no longer scratching his skin and drawing blood. John’s eczema has been much easier to control with topical steroids ever since then. That’s the wonderful thing about wet wrap treatment. I believe it restores the skin barrier and alters the way the skin behave.
